How Many Here Have Been Shunned?

as most of you already know, the jehovah's witnesses are covering an article in their august kingdom ministry to be discussed the weeks of 8/19 and 8/26 which details how they are to shun and avoid those who are no longer members of their organization, even immediate family members.. .

undoubtedly this article has been written to reinforce to the rank&file jehovah's witnesses the shunning policy, so as to tighten the ranks and prevent members from having the opportunity to learn the abundant contradictions and hypocrisies found within watchtower doctrine and practice from any who may have left.. this policy also serves to divide families and attempt to shame or abuse those whom have chosen to no longer be jehovah's witnesses, for whatever reason.. that much is obvious.

in recent days this topic has been discussed in detail in various threads.

Well, they always shun me but I'm writing more about this guy I know in this post. He's been DA'd for a while now. Parents live a few blocks away, sister isn't that much further away (maybe a mile or two tops). Parents will buy stuff everyone in a while for grandson but won't come in past the front door (except a few years ago they came into the living room, oddly enough didn't say a word about the big huge christmas tree or loads of presents). Then again, never was real close to them. Most of the time while growing up parents only had enough attention to yell about going out with all those really nice and normal "worldly" girls because they were too busy dealing with sister's problems with her drunken/abusive MS husband. Can't even remember last time sister was over and she only calls when she needs something. Former friends? They will very awkwardly talk when seen out in public but that's it. Then again, its kind of hard to act like you don't see someone when they come up and start talking to you which is always fun.

Fuck the JW's.

Computer games or television or internet?

its funny when i was younger my family always called me to come downstairs and be with the family,but the problem was my family would all just sit and watch tv and hardly say anything,so when someone says to me you play to many computer games or browse the web i say well its better than watching tv for 5-6 hours a day,all though i was brought up around tv i must admit i have started reading alot and now i actually like reading books and info on the net.is it the same for most of you on here,was your family boring or interesting, do like to play computer games,internet, etc.

i recently bought an x-box and a gamecube halo and rogue leader are brilliant im hooked!!!!

The TV next to my computer monitor is 15" which is all I want because I sit only about a foot away from it. Anything much bigger and I can't see the whole screen at once.

Oh you people who aren't technology geeks amuse me. Who says you can only do one thing at once? If you're a little inventive with wiring and have some free space you can have a setup like mine. From one chair I have my computer in front of me (web surfing) and sitting on the desk next to it is a 15" TV with a cable connection for television viewing. To my immediate right is all the home entertainment gear (surround sound reciever, DVD player, CD player, VCR, tape deck). If I turn a little bit there's a bigger TV for video gaming. I can easily be surfing the net, watching TV, and playing video games all at the same time. Not only that, but any input signal (cable TV, VCR, CD, cassette tape, computer audio/video, video games) can go right back out to any other device I want (VCR's in living room and bedroom, small and large TV's in the living room, TV in the bedroom, computer, surround sound speakers, cassette deck). Also, any signal can be blocked from any of those same systems I want as well. I haven't got any fancy or expensive equipment to do any of that stuff either. You could buy all the needed A/V distribution stuff at Radio Shack for about $50 or even less if you have a decent reciever for switching purposes.
If anyone wants any more information on how to do that stuff just say so and I'll email you more detailed information on how to do it.

H2O Anon Post: Bill Bowen Threatened

i'm worried sick at the thought that bill bowen is in danger, and sincerely hope those near him will provide his family with protection.

Actually, I don't have a security system. The company X10 makes a lot more than just cameras and security stuff. They also make lighting control components which what I have installed. Basically, with either a hand held remote or a computer add-on combined with a program that I have I can send signals to special switches that come from X10 and turn on/off or dim the lights in any room. Its cheap to buy directly from them and even cheaper on eBay. For well under $100 and a little wiring knowledge you can easily make all the lights in a 2 bedroom home remote controlled (although it obviously cost quite a bit more to make it all work throughout heaven).

Oddly enough, X10 is a protocol that can be used by any manufacturer who chooses to. Its a way for remote controls to send signals over your power lines to switches so you can turn them on and off and was developed back in the 70's. The company X10 hasn't quite been around that long and hasn't even been doing their whole camera or security bit for the entire time either.

Like I said to Derrick, his system does sound pretty competent to protect him from stoners who need some money to get their fix but if you know what you're doing you could really turn it against him, badly. Lights are computer controlled and so are the cameras. Think about it, someone gets into your computer. That means they can control all that stuff. If two or more people work together one could be sitting at home on a cell phone with an intruder telling him what Derrick is doing and could even turn the lights out on him so that the intruder could attack. Even if his computer isn't hacked someone with a laptop and antenna could easily pick up the video camera's unencrypted signal and relay what they see via cell phone or hand-held radio to a person on the inside. In other words, don't let a false sense of security lull you into complacencey.

I hate to say it but while those X10 systems may keep out the most basic of intruders all it does is provide a false sense of security against a determined and skilled intruder. The motion detectors won't go off if you move very slowly towards them and then disable them, the camera signals can be jammed (and also picked up by people outside your house who can use your own cameras to spy on you), and the software you use to check/control everything over the internet can be hacked into by someone who knows their stuff. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE X10 stuff (all of my place's lights are controlled with their systems) and it sounds like you do have a good setup to stay safe from the average stoner who needs some money so he can get his fix don't think you're safe from someone who's intelligent enough to check your place out first and is determined to get in. Also be aware that someone outside your house can VERY easily use your own camera system to spy on YOU so they can learn more about your movements and common actions because those cameras don't have built in encryption and can be picked up by anyone with an antenna and the desire to watch you.

One thing that I've always loved about Kerouac, and "On the Road" specificaly, is how Sal goes around the country interacting with various people (who in their own rights are really great folks) and alienating them, mostly because of his friendship with Dean. Its makes me think back and remember all the great folks that JW's know who alienate some really great folks. The JW's like the normal people and the normal people may like them well enough on their own but end up not wanting anything to do with them because of their cult membership. Of course, the big difference between Dean and the JW's is that at least with Dean, Sal really was having a great time with him and he knew that he was being used but was ok with it unlike the JW's who will screw you over and not think twice about it.

how did you rid yourself of them after you felt you no longer wanted anything wt related?

amazon, ebay, local book store, sell them back to brothers, burn them at apostate party, other...?.

And after that part Sal and Terri spent some time getting drunk and running around with her kid, her brother, and his friend in the manure truck until the started picking cotton for a while until they went to her parent's house and Sal eventually left it to head back east. Much later he, Dean, and Marylou pass by that same area where they lived in tents but unfortunately he was asleep at the time. That part is good but I still think the best two piecs that Kerouac wrote were
" The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones that are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones that never yawn or say a common place thing," which is taken from the very beginning of "On the Road." The other one which is on the opposite end of the spectrum from what you wrote. I can't recall which book it was in (I've read just about everything he's ever written) but I still remember the line "and I looked at her with eyes that said, or suggested 'You can go with Yuri you bitch." Just the raw emotion in that part has stuck with me for years.
Had Kerouac written the bible it would have been far more enjoyable than it is today. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, "On the Road" and a few other non-fiction books in a rather obscure scientific area that I'm in love with are the only REAL religous works out there.
